What Angry Birds and Marketing Have in Common?

Some of you may ask, it's just a game! What are the possibility they have in common? Besides slingshot the birds to kill those pigs? Angry Birds is not only a very addictive game but it does use the same strategy you use for marketing too. Here are some of the examples.

1. Study the scenario

Before you take the first step in everything you do, it's important to study the scenario that you are in. Below is the print screen of Angry Birds Scene (gives a better scenario to those who haven't play Angry Birds before). The objective of the game is to use the four available birds to attack the two green pigs on your right hand corner. So before you slingshot those birds over to kill those pigs, you need to understand the environment of the pigs. You can see that those pigs are protected with bricks, glasses and stones. This will help you to plan how you want to launch those birds.

When you are in the marketing scenario, it applies the same concept all together. Before we plan and launch any marketing product or event in the market, it's important we need to study the environment of other existing products in the market. You will need to study your current competitors, the current promotions and hiccups of that products too. That will give you a better positioning when your product is launch to the market.

2. Knowing your resources and maximizing it

In this stage, you know that you are only given the same types of birds (small Red bird) but in quantity of four. So I must know what is available in that level as different types of birds have different functionality. Some of the birds can drop an egg and some can even turn themselves into a bomb. By knowing your resources, you can plan out how you want to slingshot the birds over to the pigs. Is it going to be high or low shots, near or far shots. On the other hand, you need to maximize each of the resources that is given. In Angry Birds, the lesser birds that had been slingshot to kill all of the pigs, you gain more score points for the left over birds.

In the marketing scenario, it applies the same where by you need to know what are the available resources for your company. In today's era, your marketing is not only via media or even newspaper advertisement, there are other resources of marketing today available to you such as email campaigning and social media tolls (such as Facebook, Twitter, Websites and Blogs). By understanding and knowing the various resources, you can plan better for your long and short term marketing plans. Besides that, you can maximize your marketing campaign at a lower cost and better ROI.

3. Study the outcome and plan differently

At the end of each Angry Birds stage, it will summarize how well you did by showing the stars you got. The total stars are there. If you only gotten 1 or 2 stars, you can try again how to slingshot the pigs in a better way. Avoid the same way you slingshot the first time. Try other alternative to get the best results!

This goes to marketing strategy too. If it doesn't bring the best outcome you wanted, then work the other way with your other resources. Plan it differently and try to avoid the old maketing way that is not so effective anymore.

My conclusion is that Angry Birds is FUN! So marketing can be fun too!

Photography: Two love birds (Joey and Jess)

Thanks to my blog, I got a great opportunity to shoot a pre-wedding event. Joey found and contacted me via JenC's Little Corner last year, approximately end of November. I was very excited as I never thought I will cover something like this. It was a great opportunity for me as I get to challenge myself in a different direction. With this opportunity given to me, I invited Tammy Khoo as well. She is another passionate photographer and do check out her blog for those lovely pictures she took!

Here are some of the pictures I took that morning and do feel free to comment. :) All taken in Penang!

LiBra - Living with Brands

I was approached by my friend Tjun to assist him in covering for his company's event. It's an official opening for Libra - Living with Brands. The launching took place on 11 January 2011 at Wawasan Open University. Libra was officiated by Mr Chua Tiam Wee from National President of SMI Association of Malaysia. During the event, there were 3 invited speakers;  Mr Yap Keng Teck, Mr Jason Gan and Mr Jerry Lim. It was a very successful event.

Congratulations to Libra! :D

My Birthday

On New Year Eve, I stayed at home and had some ice wine. It was nice and a fall asleep pretty fast as I was very excited over the next day event... To KL!

It was my birthday last Sunday and I just turn 3! :-P Didn't do much but followed my cousin to KL. The six of us jump into the car and we took off as early as 7am and head straight to Mid Valley. We booked at Boulevard Hotel for a night.

When we touched down to Mid Valley, it was pretty early @10am. Some of the shops are still closed but people are coming in already. I was very happy that the Christmas decoration was still around and I managed to snap a few and this is my favorite! Teddy!

Throughout out that 2 days one night, we went from Mid Valley to The Gardens, Pavillion and the new mall - Farenheit. It was a nice shopping trip for me. Got myself a few things for the Chinese New Year and snap a few pictures along the way. Some was taken within KL and some was on the way back to Penang. Of course some cam whoring too.....

This is Julie (my cousin's fiancee). They gave me my first Paul Frank t-shirt as my birthday present! I am now an official proud owner of Paul Frank! :-P Oh.. Did I mention that I was born in the year of Monkey?

The traffic back to Penang was smooth flowing but the opposite direction was not. It was crawling and there were five to six accidents along the highway.

It was one of my best Birthday I ever had! Having my family and relatives with me the entire time..... Thanks everyone!
